HOW IT WORKS | HarbourYard

HarbourYard is an online marketplace for the worldwide marine community.

Verified ship-owners, ship operators, parts dealers, and shipyards may upload parts and items they have for sale, and gain outreach to potential clients within the community.  Although specialized and designed for the marine community, anyone can buy or sell items on HarbourYard upon item verification and approval.

Ranging from deck and machinery spares,off-shore and rig parts, and life saving equipment, to vessels, our aim is to provide a full spectrum of marine products and community services.

Non-shipping related items can be marketed in varying categories upon request and thus new subcategories will be created. Whether it be leisure craft, real estate or office equipment as long as the items are under the umbrella of a verified maritime industry user they may be marketed in their unique categories.

Our aim in such categories is to allow for a maritime oriented approach within areas otherwise not marketed within the industry.

Contacting a Seller

It is highly advised for buyers to first contact the seller in order to verify that the item is still available for sale, and all communication should be made through the HarbourYard platform so as to increase the safety of the possible transaction; once the seller confirms that the item is readily available you may begin negotiations.

Upon reaching an agreed price and verifying the description of the item, the two parties can choose to use the HarbourYard Verified escrow service, which is a method of secure transaction provided by us and protecting both the buyer and seller for a 3.5% service fee.

Through our verified escrow service, a contract is created specifically for the item being sold; this involves tailor made contract terms for your specific transaction stating the exact description, condition, structural integrity (if applicable) and all aspects of sale in respect to the item [further information on our Escrow verified service may be found under the FAQ category].

Funds are deposited into a US escrow account; once the transaction has been verified the buyer may select the method of shipment, and opt for an insurance policy on the items value.

Upon delivery of the item, the Buyer has 48 hours to inspect the item, and make sure all details in the contract are upheld. Upon successful delivery and verification of the item, funds are then released to the Sellers account

There will always be a drive from our side to have this inspection witnessed depending on the item, however it is advised that an independent surveyor takes delivery of the item in cases where its value so requires.

When such exceptions take place, we will provide a surveyor to inspect the status of the item(s).

Being contacted by a Buyer:

Upon being contacted by a potential buyer the seller must disclose all necessary information regarding the item prior to negotiation of price.  This is important because any information provided may change the purchasing price, but will also allow for a smooth transaction, and no issues resulting from the final inspection of the item.

Once both parties agree that the item or part is that which is needed, you may commence negotiations on price, and through the use of the HarbourYard messaging service keep a verified background of conversations and agreements made.

After reaching an agreed price a contract is formed between the two parties which HarbourYard LLC shall oversee by the use of HarbourYard Verified escrow service. HarbourYard shall then act as an independent intermediary overseeing the successful sale, and ordering the release of funds once everything has been completed in accordance to the terms specified by the parties.

Some Seller's Tips:

It is understandable that some issues on the condition and description of items occur in the used parts market, and this may bring about many differences between interested parties.  We aim to have both sides being specific in what they are selling and what they are expecting.

As a seller each part must be advertised individually with correct specifications and a set price or stating "price upon request.

Each item must be photographed recently, individually - meaning strictly on its own, in a clear contrast background and described accurately regarding condition.

By this meaning:

1) New

2) Like New

3) Slightly Used

4) Reconditioning Needed

A summary of the item on sale will also prove useful for both parties, and should state any flaws worth mentioning to the best of written ability and pointed out with a photograph if needed.

If all these criteria are met we are good to do business and have the item online.

Therefore, feel free to upload as many items as you wish.

As there can be varying versions of an engine with a single letter or digit signifying a change in compatibility it is very important to state the specifics from the beginning.

First we must know what we have, meaning we may have found a spare part sitting around in the warehouse and let's say for example we don't know exactly what make it is.

So the next step would be to call on a specialist to ascertain the make, the version, part codes and cross reference with others in the field of expertise before marketing the item.

Should you wish to market something not known you may state it outright.

Inaccurate description is grounds for returning the item with shipping fees paid by the seller.

Furthermore, the condition of the item should be conveyed meaning used, like new, slightly used, etc.

The specific crucial points of wear and tear should be photographed and described as sometimes a used part cannot be rebuilt due to stress at a point of contact.

Stress cracks must be mentioned and photographed.

Should an item be shipped with an unmentioned crack being discovered upon delivery this too is a red flag and grounds for return at seller's cost.

Feedback will be implemented in due time and should a buyer wish to use HarbourYard Escrow Service inaccurate description is a breach of conditions and items are subject to be returned at seller's cost.

Casual returns on the part of the buyers are not promoted either, and the reasons for providing a witness on delivery is for such action to be deterred.

Furthermore, any breach must be well documented and deemed for necessary action.

Items of Vague Description/ Scrapyard Items on Special Price:

It may be stated that "description of the item is not certain" which will obviously lower the asking price as the buyer will have to pay for an inspection.

In this case the item is purchased "as is".

Lastly, when items are sold they must be removed from the platform, even in the event that the seller has more than one items, as condition will always differ on a used part.
